It does work! Maybe you forgot to specify what you need. For example, to get all weapons, type

gimme weapons
I had this problem as well, but I figured out the reason why. Native English speakers (or at least Americans) will tend to spell "gimme" as "gimmie" because that's the way it's spelled in publications ranging from comics to books. It's also the way it was in the original Heretic (I think).

That should solve people's problems. :)

"gimme" is US slang for "give me" so I dare to disagree with your statement above. ;)

I know several FPS games where cheat code is called "gimme", AKAIF Quake2 is one of them.

American English speaker here. I have always, always spelled the word "gimme". Anyway.

Suggestion re: cheats, btw--could you make it so that the cheats work in the "nightmare" difficulty level, particularly on Strife? Sometimes the use of "noclip", for example, is absolutely necessary to get around a defect in the scripting or emulation of the original game.

Or, at least have a variable that we can set to 1 or 0 to enable/disable cheats in all difficulties. :)

Although not really Vavoom related:

In some cheat databases, I found the chead "GRP" for Strife to get the automap (gray lines for yet unvisited areas). But as far as I could find out, from Strife 1.0 to 1.3, no version really supports that cheat. So it might be a mistake.

I'm not sure how to find out from the EXE, which cheats do exist at all - and I'm not sure furthermore, if you indeed got any sources of Strife (not likely), or if still most of the support is guess-work (most probably).

So if someone has experience in spotting cheat codes (I know there are EXE editors for DOOM) or access to sources, please tell me which patterns shall be included in Strife, or how I can find out myself.

Strife cheat codes can be found at http://www.vavoom-engine.com/strife/velocity_hints/cheats.htm, but it doesn't have a GRP cheat. You should get map with PUMPUP cheat.

I'm afraid there is no PUMPUP cheat for getting the automap; PUMPUPM gives a "mask" (maybe against toxic gas?).

But I took an old DOOM.EXE, applied DeHackEd 3.1, analyzed the differences, and re-made some JavaScript code (big bad reverse engineer!) to calculate cheat text into hex codes (to search for in the EXE) and vice versa. This way, I was able to find the offsets of the STRIFE cheats inside the STRIFE1.EXE, and could verify that there is no GRP cheat coded anywhere. (It is listed e.g. in the "Dirty Little Helper" database - I've sent them a correction offer).

If you like to play around with it:

DOOM cheat forward calculator
(enter a known cheat, calculate the hex codes, search for the hex pattern)
e.g. "gps" => "E6 2A EA"

DOOM cheat backward calculator
(look near that place for more hex patterns between some 00, 01 or FF bytes, copy their code, calculate their text)
e.g. "36 A6 E6 F6" => "lego"

Well the most important FPS game of all times (Heretic) is using "gimme", so that means "gimme" is THE standard, period. This discussion is hereby closed. [menacing look]

(LOL j/k)
